World Series Results!

Day 1   You are looking live here at PED-Co Park as the Backwoods Bastards prepare to do battle with the PED-Co Juicers!  Juicer skipper Arnold Schwarzenegger confidently smokes his cigar in the home team dugout, eagerly anticipating this series.  The Bastards draw first blood as Rafael Palmeiro homers off of Curt Schilling in the 2nd inning.  PED-Co answers back with 2 of their own in the third, and then explode for 4 more in the 7th.  PED-Co manufactures 6 runs  on just 5 hits and wins the opener 6-3.  All Bastard runs came off homers from their 4-5-6 hitters (Barry Bonds, Juan Gonzalez, and Palmeiro).

Day 2   Both teams score one run in the second, but the Juicers get homers from Edgar Alfonzo and Vladimir Guerrero and get 3 runs in the third.  The Bastards answer right back in the top of the fourth, racking up 4 runs to take a 5-4 lead.  Backwoods starter Mark Gardner shut down the Juicers from that point forward, and he and Carlos Reyes stopped the Juicers the rest of the way.  Backwoods wins 5-4 and evens the series at a game each.

Sammy says 'let's hit two'
Day 3   We travel to Dueling Banjos Stadium but the Juicers are unafraid of the surroundings.  Sammy Sosa homers in the 1st inning and PED-Co is immediately up 2-0.  The Bastards get one back in the first, but Arnold's boys start unleashing the power after that, racking up three in the 2nd inning and 4 in the 4th.   This one totally gets away from Backwoods, and the final is 14-2 in favor of PED-Co.  Sammy Sosa hit 2 homers, and Kerry Wood whiffed 11 Bastards.  PED-Co takes a 2-1 lead in the Series.

Day 4   David Wells takes the mound for Backwoods, and is superb, shutting out PED-Co through 6 and 2/3 innings. Rafael Palmeiro hits another "home-ah", Juan Gone and Nomar each drive in two, and this is an easy 5-1 win for the Bastards. Series is evened at two games each.

The burly Jim Thome only had
19 steals in 22 real-life seasons!
Day 5   It's the final game at Dueling Banjos Stadium, and the Juicers again start out fast.  They piece together two runs from a couple singles and notably, a Jim Thome stolen base!  Magglio Ordonez later homered for PED-Co.  Juicers starter Chan Ho Park brought his 'A' game, allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings.  It's a 5-2 win for PED-Co, they now lead the series 3 games to 2, and are heading home for the rest of the Series!

Day 6   Backwoods immediately roughed up Kerry Wood, racking up 5 runs before ANYONE got out.  Backwoods' Matt Morris was absolutely shelled earlier this series, and he steps up in Game 6 in a big way.  He only allowed PED-Co two hits and one run through all 9 innings.  The 5-1 win evens the Series and sets up a Game 7, winner-take-all game tomorrow night!

Day 7   It's Curt Schilling vs David Wells in Game 7!  Schilling sets down the Bastards in the first, although he did drill Barry Bonds with a fastball just for fun.  Wells didn't fare as well, allowing a two-run shot by Jorge Posada as PED-Co was quickly up 2-0.  PED-Co then rolled up three runs against Wells in the second, sending him to the showers early.  Matt Stairs homered in the fifth, and two more PED-Co runs in the sixth made is 8-0.  Schilling shut out the Bastards through eight innings, but clearly tired after getting one out in the 9th.  The deadly duo of Juan Gonzalez and Nomar Garciaparra homered off of him and it was now 8-3.  Arnold sent out Scott (No Shirt, No Shoes, No) Service to calm things down, but he gave up three straight hits without getting anyone out, and it was now 8-4.  An irate Schwarzenegger called on his closer Trevor Hoffman,  who struck out the final two batters and won the title for the Juicers!!!!

Congratulations to Arnold, Trevor, Sammy, Matt Stairs, and owner Mike Walter for winning our replay.  What a great season, thanks to all for playing!!!!!!!!

PED-Co skipper Arnold celebrates the title!
Game 7 winner Schilling didn't
even need to bloody his socks this time
Hell's Bells!  Trevor Hoffman saves the day!

Sammy Sosa is your Series MVP:
9 for 25, .360 average, 2 HRs, 10 RBIs

Playoffs?! Playoffs! You talkin' to me about Playoffs?!

1998 playoffs are just as exciting as the regular season!  Click on the days below to see the full boxscores, stories, etc. of each day's action....

Scott Brosius - WHAM!  Another home-ah!
Day 1   The Bastards get past the Rickeys in the first game, 6-4.  Scott "Atrocious" Brosius belts 2 HRs and drives in 3 for Backwoods, and Juan Gone adds a dinger as well.  John Johnstone gets the 'W' in relief.

Meanwhile, the Replicas trounce the home-town Juicers 10-1.  Albert Belle gets two homers and Greg Maddux hold PED-Co to just 1 run and 5 hits.   Quote lifted directly from the boxscore tells the story "'Maddux was the man tonight,' Andy Willnus said.  'He had just about every pitch working.'

Day 2   The Rickeys bounce back to thump the Bastards 14-3 and even the series at one game apiece.  Ray Lankford cranked two HRs, and Tino Martinez, Ken Caminiti, and Willie Greene added one homer each for Henderson.

At PED-Co Park, Rocco put up two insurance runs in the top of the 9th to take a 5-2 lead.  Ugueth Urbina struck out the first two batters, but the league's top team was not done yet.  Mark Loretta, Larry Walker, and Vlad Guerrero all singled, and then Sammy Sosa HR'd to give the Juicers an incredible 6-5 win!!!  The series is tied 1-1.

Day 3   Barry Bonds had 4 hits and the Bastards edged the Rickeys 10-9 to take a 2-1 series lead.  Backwoods got homer from Scott Brosius, Jose Canseco, and Brad Ausmus.  Both teams combined for 30 hits.

The free-swinging Vladdie:
never one for good form, but
he hit almost everything.  Four
homers in this series!
PED-Co rocked Rocco 8-2.  Vladdie ripped two more home runs.  Kerry Wood was the star, carrying a no-hitter into the 7th inning, and finishing with 2 runs allowed, 3 hits, and 14 K''s!  PED-Co leads the series 2-1 now.

Day 4   Backwoods beats the Rickeys on their own turf 5-4, thanks to Scott Brosius again clubbing a homer, this time an eighth-inning, two-run shot.  Tom Gordon got the last four outs to preserve the victory.  Backwoods is  up 3-1 for the series.

PED-Co takes their show on the road to Rocco, and hold on for a 3-2 victory.  Vladimir Guerrero hit another home run, his 4th in as many games.  Trevor Hoffman allowed a triple with one out in the ninth, but got a groundout from Paul O'Neill and then whiffed Matt Williams to save the day.   PED-Co now holds a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.

Day 5   The Rickeys live to fight another day, topping Backwoods 9-3.  Pete Harnisch gets his 2nd win of the series, and Ray Lankford hit his third round-tripper and has now safely hit in all five games.  Backwoods still on the cusp of advancing, they now hold a 3-2 series lead.

Rocco's Edgar Martinez is truly en fuego!
PED-Co and Rocco were tied at seven after 9 innings.  This one went to the 14th inning when Rocco was able to put together a few hits and bring home the winning run when Matt Williams (yesterday's goat) became today's hero with the walk-off single.  Edgar Martinez hit 2 HR's.  Rocco also staves off elimination, and they now trail PEDCo 3 games to 2.

Day 6   Henderson wins one on the road, 5-3, to tie the Bastards at 3 games apiece.  Brian Bohanan got the win, and Tino Martinez provided a homer.  Bastard Jason Giambi came up in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out, 2 on, but grounded into a double play to end it.  The two teams prepare for a Game 7 finale in Dueling Banjos Stadium tomorrow night.

PED-Co thrashes Rocco 9-2 and wins the series 4 games to 2!!!  Kerry Wood was again lights out, only allowing 2 runs, 5 hits, and accumulating 11 more strikeouts.  Todd Walker had 2 hits and 4 RBIs.

Kerry Ligtenberg's awkward facial hair
won't make anyone forget Rollie Fingers,
but he will be forever loved by Bastard
Nation for his heroics tonight!
Day 7   Backwoods jumps on Henderson starter Al "Lighter" Leiter, scoring three runs in the first inning, including a Juan Gonzalez two-run shot.  The Rickeys scratched out a couple of runs, but a three-run 7th gave Backwoods a commanding 6-2 lead going into the 9th inning.  Tom Gordon came in to close it out, but Tino Martinez got on base after an error, then Gordon got rattled and walked the next two batters.  Eric Davis singled in a run and manager Steve Willnus went to the pen and brought in Carlos Reyes.   Jose Offerman sent Reyes packing after a two-run single narrowed it to 6-5 with a runner on first and two down, with #1 draft pick Alex Rodriguez striding to the plate for Henderson.  Kerry Ligtenberg was called in by Willnus, and he promptly struck out A-Rod on three straight pitches, preserving the win and sending the Bastards to the World Series to face the Juicers!

So we have Backwoods facing PED-Co, the two best regular season records, facing each other in the World Series.  Nice!  Will keep the same rotations that you guys had before unless you tell me differently.  Games will start tomorrow!

Days 170-172: Backwoods sweeps Rocco, Henderson edges Monterrey for Central Title, Rocco still earns wild card bid!

The playoff field is now set!  Congratulations to our champions, PED-Co Juicers, Backwoods Bastards, Henderson Rickeys, and our wild card winner Rocco's Replicas.

Will do the Playoff series in a couple days, please send me a playoff rotation if you would like!
Rocco will travel to PED-Co for a seven game set, and Henderson will take that scary path to Dueling Banjos Stadium to take on the Bastards!

Day 169  Amazingly, the first and second teams in each division were scheduled to face each other in the final three games.  Those creaky old mainframe computers HAL uses to generate the schedule really outdid themselves!  The Bastards topped the Replicas 8-3, with Rafael Palmeiro homering and driving in three RBIs.  That clinched the East Division crown for the Bastards!  The Rickeys moved a game ahead of Monterrey by shelling them 18-1.  Brian Bohanan only allowed one hit to the Aztecs, a Barry Larkin HR.    Goombies pummeled the Buttheads 6-1, with Tom Candiotti confounding Brooklyn with his assortment of junk.  Gary Disarcina had 2 hits and 3 RBIs for the Fremonts, who defeated Getting Jimmy in 11 innings.  Verona edged Dublin 4-3.  "Wakey Wakey" Tim Wakefield handcuffed the Frosted Tips, holding them to 1 run and eliminating them from wild card contention.

Day 170  Monterrey returned to a tie for first in the East by downing Henderson 7-4, using a 4 run 11th inning to earn the win.  The Bastards beat Rocco again, 2-1, Nomar with a walkoff HR in the 12th inning!  Dublin got timely hitting from Vinny Castilla and strong pitching from Steve Woodard (Avenue) to beat Verona.  The Juicers again defeated the Frosted Tips, 3-2 this time.  Curt Schilling got his league-leading 19th win.  Brooklyn beat Dublin 4-2, with Mariano Rivera notching his 25th save. The Fremonts romped over Getting Jimmy 9-4, as Ken Griffey ripped his 62nd homer!

Yes, this is a professional athlete
Bartolo lifts the Rickeys to the title!
Exhibit A for the DH rule - Bartolo Colon at the plate

Day 172   Only one title left to determine - Monterrey traveled to Henderson, Nevada for a winner-take-all game.  The always-in-shape Bartolo Colon  outdueled his Aztec counterpart Jamie Moyer and Henderson wins the game 3-1, and claims the Central Division Championship!  The Bastards completed a sweep of Rocco with a 5-4 win, Jason Giambi bringing home 3 of those runs.  The Frosted Tips ended the season on a high note, beating the Juicers 4-3 when Brian Jordan hit a 10th inning homer.   Getting Jimmy got a homer and 3 RBIs from defensive specialist Darren Lewis while beating up Las Vegas 9-5.  Mike Mussina pitches a shutout for the Goombies in their finale, and Verona rallies for 2 in the top of the ninth to surprise the Dubliners 5-4.

Days 167-169: Tie in the Central, Backwoods two up on Rocco with three to go!

Pennant races continue to thrill!  Henderson and Monterrey are deadlocked after 159 games.  Backwoods moves their lead over Rocco to 2 games after this three-game set, but the two brothers face each other in the final three games!  The wild card looks likely to go to the loser of the East Division as Fort Wayne slipped a game down and the Monterrey/Henderson loser likely won't have enough wins to claim the wild card.

The beefy McGwire has
exceeded even his real life
totals (.310 average, .455 OBP,
and 1.252 OBPS!!!)
Plenty of individual awards and records are still worth following.  Mark McGwire has made a mockery of the Home Run and RBI chases (78 HR's and 162 RBIs so far!), will be watching to see where he ends up.  He even comes in 4th in the league in average, although Larry Walker of Midland is way ahead in that category.  There are four pitchers tied for most wins right now (Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, Greg Maddux, and David Cone), each with 18 'W's.  Randy Johnson has a lock on the Strikeout title, he is at 333 so far!  Kenny Rogers of Las Vegas and Greg Maddux of Rocco are battling for the ERA crown, at 3.16 and 3.20 respectively.  Trevor Hoffman is up by two for most saves, but Mike Jackson could make it interesting if the Frosted Tips can upend the Juicers a few times in the final series.

The Bastard's Barry Bonds
will endorse anything
Day 167  Jimmy's Jose Lima goes the distance and holds the Rickeys to just 1 run, Barry Bonds hits push the Bastards pass the Fremonts. Verona tops Fort Wayne 8-5, scoring 5 runs in the top of the ninth to demoralize the Frosted Tips.  The Dubliners stop Rocco's Replicas in a 6-3 game.  The Juicers beat the Goombies 9-4, Mark Loretta tallied 4 hits.  Monterrey takes back the lead in the Central, edging the Buttheads 6-5.  David Justice's 9th inning homer was the difference there.

Day 168  Rocco gains a game on the Bastards, still trailing them by 1 full game.  The Replicas took apart the Dubliners 13-4.  The Fremonts knocked off the Bastards 8-6, with Brett Tomko picking up the win.  The Rickeys beat Jimmy 7-3, but Monterrey stayed atop the Central thanks to a dramatic 6-run rally in the top of the ninth inning.  Verona again played spoiler to Fort Wayne, beating them 5-4 in 11 innings.  The Juicers aren't resting on their laurels after clinching their division, they blast Dublin 10-5, with Sammy Sosa cracking HR's #66 and #67.

Day 169   Henderson battered Jimmy 8-3, and moved into a first place tie with idle Monterrey.  Fort Wayne stayed alive as Woody "The Woodman" Williams two-hitted Verona.  Rocco's Replicas suffered a 6-5 defeat to Dublin, the men from Ireland rallying for two runs in the bottom of the ninth. The Juicers powered past Midland 8-4.

Days 161-166: Rocco's run puts the East back in play, and PED-Co clinches the West!!

Have decided to break the schedule up a bit to maximize drama AND get our regular season done before MLB kicks off Sunday night and we have real boxscores to read, so I ran six of the remaining twelve days today.  Will run three more Saturday, and the final three early Sunday.

After the Bastards magnificent run, it seemed the East Division crown was theirs for the taking, but they hit a bit of a tailspin and now it is Rocco on a mad run, currently riding a five-game winning streak and crawling within 1 game of the Bastards.  Henderson has maintained their lead over Monterrey, although it is now down to 1/2 game.  PED-Co, with the best overall record in the league, has officially claimed the West and is our first playoff participant.  The wild card lead is now hold by Rocco, with Fort Wayne falling to three games behind and Monterrey 3.5 out.

Day 161  The Fremonts beat the Bastards 7-5 to break the epic 14 game winning streak.  Verona deals Fort Wayne a tough loss when Bobby Higginson doubles home Frank Thomas in the ninth inning.  The Rickeys pound Brooklyn 11-3, with A-Rod belting his 40th and 41st homers.  Monterrey tattooed Midland 13-3, Scott Hatteberg hit a grand slam and added a couple of doubles.

Day 162  Rocco beat the Roadrunners 8-4, with an unlikely grand slam from Jeff Reed.  The Bastards got back on the winning side and knocked off Henderson thanks to a strong performance from David Wells.  Fort Wayne's Woody Williams tossed a three-hitter and the Frosted Tips topped the Juicers 4-1.  Monterrey beat Las Vegas as Scott Hatteberg continued to rake, cracking his 12th homer.   Moises Alou hit 2 HRs for Brooklyn as they downed the Goombies 5-1.

Day 163  Juan Gone hits 2 taters as the Bastards again get by the Rickeys, Dublin holds on for a 2-1 win over Getting Jimmy, Rocco's Andres Galararaga hit homer #41 in a 5-3 win over Verona, and Fort Wayne again beat the Juicers, this time 4-2, with Randy Johnson evening his record at 13-13.  Midland beat up Brooklyn 11-5.  Vegas beats the Aztecs with a two-run rally in the 9th.

Day 164  Getting Jimmy beats Dublin in a 12-9 slugfest, B.J. Surhoff had 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.  Midland's Pedro Martinez joined Curt Schilling and Greg Maddux in the 18-win club. and Larry Walker had four hits for the Goombies as they edge "No Sleep Til" Brooklyn.  Rocco eked byVerona 7-6.  The Rickeys nipped the Bastards 6-5, and PED-Co pounded out 16 hits and 18 runs as they crush Fort Wayne 18-5.  Sammy Sosa hit homers #62 and #63.  Monterrey got 3 RBIs from Barry Larkin to defeat Las Vegas 4-2.
PED-Co manager Arnold celebrating
his team's pennant!

Day 165  PED-Co clinches the pennant in the West Division by defeating arch-rival Fort Wayne 5-4.  Getting Jimmy got a total of 6 runs in the 8th and 9th to top (of the morning) Dublin 7-1.  The Rickeys gets s four-hit shutout from Brian Bohanan to topple the Bastards.  Rocco continued to gain ground on the Bastards,  Mike Simms' 5 RBIs giving them the 'w' again Verona.  Bret Saberhagen had a four-hit shutout of his own for Brooklyn.  Rick Reed only allows one run as Monterrey wins 7-1 over the Fremonts.

Griffey Jr and Sosa accept their awards
as new members of the 60+ HR Club

Day 166   Rocco's fifth win in a row is a 9-3 effort over the Dubliners.  The Fremonts send the Bastards to defeat again, 6-3 this time.  Ken Griffey Jr. clubbed his 60th homer of the year, joining Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in the "60 and over" HR Club!  Monterrey tops Brooklyn in the 13th on a Bret Boone hit.  PED-Co walloped the Goombies 11-1, with Ramon Martinez only allowing three hits.  Getting Jimmy snuck past Henderson 1-0, with Brian Anderson and Pete Harnisch the unlikely participants in such a pitchers duel.  McGwire hit #77 as Fort Wayne triumphed over Verona 7-2.

Again, look for the next three games sometime late Saturday, and then the final three regular season games will come out on Sunday! !

Days 151-160: Bastards Reign of Terror! Backwoods goes 10-0 and is now on a 14 game winning streak!!!

Break up the Bastards!  They are
riding the longest hot streak seen this year!
As Stan and Kyle said so many times on South Park after Kenny died, "you Bastards!".  Backwoods is now on an epic 14 game winning streak, leapfrogging Rocco's Replica's and enjoying a 4.5 game lead with 12 days left in the season!

Henderson has climbed back atop the Central, and PED-Co remains in first control of the West.  Wild card battle is super close - Rocco leads that battle, with Fort Wayne a half game behind and Monterrey three behind.

Not sure if that is Juan Gone or
the cowboy from the Village People

On the heels of Backwood's incredible run, it is only fitting for a Bastard to be named Player of the Block.  And Juan Gonzalez is just the Bastard for it!  Juan Gone hit a hefty .405 with 3 HR's and 10 RBIs.  Henderson sluggers Ken Caminiti, Eric Davis, and A-Rod were all close competitors, but the Henderson trio must have split the votes, allowing Gonzalez to win  :-)

Day 151   Fort Wayne and Dublin engaged in the longest contest so far this year, a 17 inning epic!  The Frosted Tips get the duke when Brian S. Giles homered in the top of the 17th. Manny Ramirez collected four hits for the Rickeys, and the Bastards topped Las Vegas 5-3.  Sammy Sosa hit homer #60 in the Juicer's win over Verona.  Rocco wins behind Andres Galarraga's two homers.  Monterrey holds off a game Goombie team 6-5.  Backwoods Juan Gonzalez (he of the Hulk-style ripped up shirt in the picture above) provided the offense and David Wells the pitching in a 3-0 win over Getting Jimmy.

Day 152  Henderson's Jose Offerman hits a grand slam, Steve Trachsel pitches Dublin over the Frosted Tips, and the Replica's Greg Maddux K's 10 and holds the Fremonts to just 1 run while picking up win #18.  Mike Mussina is lights out for Midland against Monterrey.  The Bastards get another Juan Gone homer and top Jimmy again.

Day 153  Midland's Tony Womack gets four hits  and Denny Neagle goes the distance in a 10-5 win over the Rickeys.  Backwoods Juan Guzman goes all nine in their 6-2 win.  Verona Ridge gets a walkoff homer in the 11th from Bobby Higginson and turns away Fort Wayne!  PED-Co edges Dublin 6-5.  John Johnstone and Tom Gordon help the Bastards over the Fremonts.  Jeff Kent racks up 2 hits and 2 RBIs in a 5-1 win over Monterry.  Getting Jimmy, happy to be playing anyone other than the Bastards, take down the Replicas 11-3!

Day 154  Larry Walker hits 2 homers and Roberto Kelly's walkoff homer give the Goombies the win over the Replicas.  Fort Wayne tops Verona as Tim Salmon gets 4 hits and 3 RBIs.  Will "The Thrill" Clark has a walk-off hit for Dublin.  "Da Meathook" Dmitri Young has two homers and 4 RBIs for Monterrey.  Backwoods gets 2 Barry Bonds homers and a walkoff hit from The Loftonator, Kenny Lofton!  Rocco held serve by defeating Getting Jimmy, David Cone getting 12 K's and moving his record up to 17-8.

Day 155  A-Rod hits his 37th homer in a win over Midland, Travis Fryman slugs 2 out of the park for victorious Verona, Sammy's 61st puts the Juicers over Dublin, Scott Erickson (aka The King of Getting a Decision Out of Every Start) moves to 15-19 in Monterrey's 3-1 win over Brooklyn.  More late-inning magic for the Bastards as Brad "McDreamy" Ausmus singles in the winner in the bottom of the ninth!

Day 156  Fort Wayne gets 10 innings from Woody Williams and a walk-off single from Andruw Jones to upset PED-Co, Will Clark ties a league record with 5 hits for Dublin as they crush Verona 15-3.  It's apparently Pitching Endurance Day as Kevin Brown goes all nine in Brooklyn's win, Bartolo Colon does the same for Henderson, Brett TOmko does for Vegas, and Mark Gardner does for those relentless Bastards!

Day 157  Brooklyn trounces Midland 10-3, Ken Griffey gives Vegas two homers and a victory over Getting Jimmy, Monterrey falls to Henderson's Al Leiter,   Verona edges Dublin 4-2, and The Bastards beat Rocco decisively, 14-8, with Cliff Floyd cracking two home runs.  Game of the Day was certainly PED-CO slipping past Fort Wayne 11-10.  Each team had 13 hits.  Jim Edmonds three-run homer was key for the Juicers.

Day 158  Buttheads beat Goombies with Bret Saberhagen getting the win, Fort Wayne crushed PED-Co 11-6, despite Matt Stairs two homers.  Henderson gets past rival Monterrey again, 4-1 this time.  The Bastards get their usual win, Tom "Flash" Gordon collecting save #32.  Vegas edges Jimmy 2-1, and Verona's Neifi Perez again is the right man at the right time, cracking a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 13th!

Day 159  Bastards keep winning, 4-3 this time against the Fremonts.   Pedro Martinez handcuffed Monterrey's batters and the Goombies win 4-1.  Mike Hampton and Mike Jackson combine for Fort Wayne to shut out Verona.  Eric Davis gets 5 RBIs as Henderson stomps Brooklyn 11-1.

Day 160   Robert Abreu (his name gets more formal as the season goes on!) had two homers, four hits, and four ribbies for Brooklyn.  Midland's Pedro Martinez claimed his 16th win of the season.  Fort Wayne's Mike Piazza hit his 21st homer in their win over Dublin.  The Unstoppable Bastards topped Vegas 5-3, with Nomar clubbing his 27th home run.

Days 141-150: Monterrey, Rocco take over first place in their divisions! Mark McGwire's 74th sets a new MLB record!!!!

The Backwoods Bastards have dominated the East for a long time, but a sibling rivalry has developed and now Andy and his Rocco's Replicas have the upper hand.  They are now 1/2 game above the Bastards, and are riding a nine-game win streak.  Henderson started out strong but has been very average for a while now.  Monterrey has taken advantage and now is firmly in first place in the Central, by a game and a half.  PED-Co remains the sole thing we can all count on, far away in first place in the West.  Backwoods leads the wild card race, with Fort Wayne a game behind them, and Henderson one more game away.

We will welcome an unlikely Player Of The Block, PED-Co's Matt "Ass Hammer" Stairs!  The well-traveled slugger (he played for more major-league teams than any position player in major league history) put together a 18 for 39 stretch (.462 average) with four home runs.  Mark McGwire's .370 with 4 homers actually is a cooling off period for him!  Greg Maddux had two dominant wins for Rocco.

Day 141  Midland's Dean Palmer blasted 2 HRs and had 5 RBIs.  John Smoltz and B.J. Surhoff star for Jimmy in their 3-1 win over Brooklyn.  Verona topped Henderson 4-3, as Sal Fasano is the hero with a 2 run homer.  Sammy Sosa hit homers #56 and #57 in the Juicers win over Monterrey.  Fort Wayne used two Robin Ventura home runs in a 14-2 romp over the Bastards, their seventh straight win!  Dublin topped the Fremonts to give Steve Woodard his 10th win.

Day 142  Brooklyn's Carlos Perez goes the distance and holds Jimmy to just 1 run.  Rocco's Albert Belle hit his 51st homer in a win over Midland.  Monterry tops PED-Co on a Jeff Cirillo walk-off, extra-inning triple.  The Bastards gave Fort Wayne's Shiggy Hasegawa his first loss when Juan Gonzalez hit a 9th inning home run.

Day 143  Verona's Javy Lopez knocked in four in a 6-5 win over the Juicers.  Rocco's Greg Maddux earned his 16th win and Albert Belle cranked his 52nd homer.  Dublin topped the Rickeys 9-6, despite Ray Lankford's two home runs.  Fort Wayne nipped Las Vegas 3-2, with all three runs coming from Mark McGwire's 72nd round-tripper.  The Goombies rallied late to top Jimmy 5-3.

Day 144  Crazy game at PED-Co as the Juicers and Verona battled.  It was 4-2 Verona until PED-Co scored three in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead, then they relinquished the lead when Verona scored 4 in the top of the ninth, then retook the lead by scoring four of their own in the bottom of the ninth!  Jim Thome's three-run triple ended it in favor of PED-Co.  Andres Galarraga had 2 homer for Rocco.  Randy Johnson struck out 12 Fremonts and Fort Wayne wins 6-3.  Dubliners were all over the Rickeys, 13-1.  Sandy Martinez had three extra-base hits and four RBIs.  JImmy got with it in an 8-3 win over Midland.

Day 145  Only one game tonight.  Verona ripped the Juicers 9-4.  Henry Rodriguez had two home runs, and Matt Stairs hit his 31st for PED-Co.

Day 147  Rusty Greer drove in three for Brooklyn, Neifi Perez lifted Verona over Henderson,  Darin Erstad powered Monterrey past Dublin, Backwoods edged Fort Wayne 3-2, and Edgardo Alfonso's two hits helped PED-Co past Las Vegas.  Rocco's Matt Williams joined the select company of those who have hit 3 HR's in a single game this year, when he turned the trick in a win against the Goombies!

Day 148  Six in a row for Rocco, 3-1 over Midland.  Getting Jimmy's David Segui had two dingers to get past Brooklyn.  Jeff Fassero and Billy Wagner combined for Verona to blank the Rickeys.  Backwoods starter Hideo Nomo did even better, tossing a one-hit shutout at Fort Wayne!

Day 149  Another day, another win for Rocco!  They edge Midland 6-5.  Brooklyn gets a two-run homer from Jeff Kent in the top of the ninth to beat Jimmy.  Verona owns Henderson again, defeating them 8-6 this time. Jeff Bagwell's HR propelled Dublin past Monterrey.  The Bastards again top Fort Wayne, 6-2 this time.  Nomar has 4 hits and scores 3 runs.

Days 131-140 - Fort Wayne and Rocco go 8-2, full fledged playoff chase is underway!

Fort Wayne skipper Guy Fieri and his bench coach
reflect on Fort Wayne's recent hot sreak
Fort Wayne and Rocco's Replicas both vaulted into contention with 8-2 records in this block of games. The Frosted Tips bested their arch-rivals the Juicers a few times, but PED-Co remains in charge of the West with an 8 game lead.  Fort Wayne is now just 1 game behind wild card leader Monterrey, and is riding a six game winning streak!  Rocco moved into second in the East, just a game and a half behind the Backwoods Bastards, and two games out of the wild card themselves.  32 more days remain in this season, and a thrilling finish is sure to follow!

The Home Run Chase is a one-man contest right now.  Mark McGwire connected on six more home runs this set, and is now at the 70 he hit in real life this year!  And he still has 31 more games to go!

Randy Johnson is as happy as
a schoolgirl to get the award!
Player of the Block honors go back to Fort Wayne, to one very large man named Randy Johnson!  The Big Unit picked up three wins against zero losses over the last 10 games.  His 22 innings yielded
28 strikeouts, just 10 hits allowed, and an ERA of 2.04.

Special mention must go to Rocco's Ugueth Urbina, who accumulated three wins AND three saves this set, and teammate Edgar Martinez, who batted a smoking .480 over the last 10 games

Day 131  Fort Wayne rolls over the Juicers 7-4, McGwire with a homer and Randy Johnson with the win.  Rocco defeated the Fremonts 3-2 on a Ray Durham sac fly. adding Greg Maddux to the top of the list with other 15-game winners Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, and Chan Ho Park.  Dublin's Francisco Cordova  ("Francisco, that's fun to say") throws a four hit shutout.  Mo Vaughn's power and Tom Candiotti's, um, 'craftiness' get Midland over Monterrey.  Getting Jimmy with It has what it probably the greatest comeback of the season:  Trailing the Bastards 6-2 in the  bottom of the 9th, Jimmy improbably rallies for six runs, punctuated by Todd Helton's three-run game-winning homer!!!!

Day 132  Jose Canseco slugs two HRs for the Bastards, Sterling (Silver) Hitchcock gets his 11thw in and adds 10 K's to his season total, Rocco tops the Fremonts in 13 innings by putting up a six spot in the top of the 13th!  Old Man Al Leiter pitches the Rickeys over the Buttheads, and Mike Mussina goes the distance in yet another Goombie win.  Tis the season for big last innings, as Dublin, trailing Verona 8-2 somehow puts up EIGHT runs in the bottom of the 9th to win it!  Scott Rolen's three run HR was the winner there!

Day 133  Two homers from Larry Walker give Goombies another win, Dubliner top Fort Wayne 6-4, Verona's Justin Thompson gets his 9th win of the year, Brooklyn powers past Monterrey 9-5, and Jimmy bests Rocco in a classic 'Lima Time' performance.  After suffering a devastating loss the other night, the Bastards rebound with 9th inning HR's from Jose Canseco and Nomar Garciaparra to top Vegas.

Day 134  The Rickeys rally for four in the ninth to top Midland, Brian Moehler's solid outing gives the Dubliners another win,  Craig Biggio's hits propel Verona Ridge over PED-Co.  It was a huge game for The Kid, as Ken Griffey Jr. hit two home runs and drove in SEVEN!  Brooklyn's bats exploded for 11 runs to go over Monterrey, and Rocco topped Jimmy 8-5.

Day 135  Big day for Henderson's Alex Rodriguez, who goes for 5 hits and 4 RBIs.  Mark McGwire's 66th pushed Fort Wayne over Dublin, Jeff Fassero extended the Roadrunner's winning streak to three games. Las Vegas' Brett Tomko only allows three hits to the Bastards, and Rolando Arrojo tossed seven shutout innings for Brooklyn.

Day 136  Slammin' Matt Stairs hit two home runs and the Juicers rolled up 17 hits and 10 runs against Dublin.  Curt Schilling gets his 16th win of the season to stand alone on top of the league leaders for now.  Roger Clemens K'd 10 Fremonts and earned his 12th win for Jimmy.  Henderson tops Brooklyn in a 11-10 slugfest.  Fort Wayne's Kevin Millwood stopped Verona, and Mike Bordick cranked two HRs for the victorious Replicas.

Day 137  Tim Wakefield is now 2-0 for PED-Co, Cal Ripken homers and drives in three in a Vegas win over Jimmy, and Carlos Perez of Brooklyn baffles the Rickeys.  Scott Hatteberg had three hits for the Aztecs in their 6-1 win over Midland, and Barry Bonds  29th homer helped the Bastards beat arch-rival Rocco.  Fort Wayne's Woody Williams is now 5-2 as the Tips topped the Roadrunners 5-3.

Day 138  Sammy Sosa's 54th HR of the year lifts the Juicers over the Dubliners, Albert Belle's two home runs are the difference in Rocco's 8-7 win over Backwoods, and Brooklyn eked past the Rickeys 3-2.  Las Vegas Fremont Ken Griffey's 53rd was a highlight in the win over Jimmy.  Frosted Tips' slugger Mark McGwire connected for #68 in a 7-4 win over Verona.  Monterrey smashed Midland as Scott Hatteberg continued his little hot streak with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs.

Day 139 Getting Jimmy and Brooklyn were locked in a scoreless game when Jimmy exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 9th.  Derek Jeter's grand slam accounted for most of those runs.  Carl Everett had three hits, including the walk-off,  as the Replicas beat the Goombies in extra innings.  Sammy Sosa hit #54 in the Juicers win over the Aztecs.  Randy Johnson struck out 12 Bastards and Mark McGwire smashed historic homers #69 and #70!!!

Day 140   Mark Grace's two-run shot aided Brooklyn in their win against Getting Jimmy, and the Rickeys scraped past Verona 5-4.  Rocco snuck past Midland 3-2, and Vegas trounced Dublin 8-3.  Kevin Millwood tossed a four-hit shutout for red-hot Fort Wayne.  Lot of runners left on base south of the border as Monterrey edges the Juicers 4-3, despite  a combined 28 hits!  The Aztecs won in the bottom of the 12th when PED-Co reliever Scott Service threw a wild pitch!

Ped-Co and Monterrey topped all teams this set with 7-3 records.  PED-Co is running away with the West, their lead now up to 12 games.  Still a two-horse race in the Central, as Monterrey now owns a 1.5 game lead over once-mighty Henderson.  Backwoods is now 4 games ahead of Las Vegas in the East

Trevor Hoffman adds five saves to his total this week
Player of the Block honors go to Trevor Hoffman of PED-Co!  As long as I have been doing these replays, I've never seen a reliever get 5 saves in a 10 game stretch!  Hoffman got in 13 innings to rack up those saves, with a 2.07 ERA and 18 strikeouts.  Rocco's Albert Belle hit .326 with 7 HRs, and teammate Mike Bordick hit .370 in 27 at bats.  Jamie Moyer went 2-0 for Monterey, with a 0.56 ERA.

Day 123  Greg Maddux dominates with a 4 hit shutout  of Dublin.  Bastards rally for two in the top of 9th to give Mike Maddux the win, making the brothers a combined 20-6 this year!  Derek Jeter put up 4 hits in a narrow Getting Jimmy victory.  Barry Larkin drove in 5 for the Aztecs.  Mark Grace had two homers as Brooklyn puts up 14 runs.

Day 124  Monterrey gets two homers and six RBIs from Darin Erstad as they edge Verona 8-7.  Rocco beat Dublin as Andres Galarraga gets two home runs of his own.  Juicers beat Jimmy 2-1 as Kerry Wood accumulates 13 strikeouts.  Tony Gwynn had four hits for the Fremonts, and Tony Womack had four for Midland.  Mike Mussina struck out 14 Bastards in that win for the Goombies.

Day 125  Juan Guzman continued his second half surge with 10 K's in a win over Midland.  Bill Mueller had two hits and two RBIs as Getting Jimmy got by PED-Co.  Kevin Young and Rick Helling led Las Vegas over  Brooklyn.

Day 126  Mark McGwire does it, cracking home runs #61 and #62 to break Roger Maris' record!!!  And it is only August 3rd, no telling where Big Mac ends up now.  Rocco beat the Bastards 4-1 despite being outhit 11-10.  Kenny Rogers gives the Fremonts a shutout victory.  Dublin gets five hits, two home runsm and five ribbies from Scott Rolen! Getting Jimmy explodes for 5 runs in the top of the ninth to upend the Rickeys.

Day 128  Willie Greene continues his out-of-nowhere heroics for Henderson, Tim Wakefield gets a win in his Retro League debut with the Juicers,  Brooklyn holds on to top Dublin 6-5, and Backwoods get HR's from Barry Bonds, Juan Gone, Palmeiro, and Nomar to crush Rocco 10-4.   Mark McGwire hit his 63rd homer, but that was it for the Frosted Tips as Monterrey beats them 7-1.

Day 129  B.J. Surhoff leads the Jimmy offense to a 11-7 win over Henderson.  PED-Co was exceptionally juiced up today, romping over the Goombies 17-5.  Jim Edmonds had three hits, including a grand slam!  Matt Lawton had three hits for Dublin, and Brian Jordan and Mark McGwire homered to lift Fort Wayne over Monterrey.  The Fremonts used three hits from Tony Gwynn to top Verona.  It was a Willnus Brothers matchup, however, that stole the show tonight.  Rocco's Replicas and the Backwoods Bastards were knotted at 7 apiece until the Replicas rallied in the bottom of the 9th.  Mike Bordick singled, and the Big Cat Andres Galarraga doubled him home for the win!

Day 130   PED-Co is now riding a five-game winning streak after dispatching Fort Wayne 8-4.  Rick Helling goes all nine, only allowing one run to put Vegas over Rocco.  Verona Ridge's Chris Carpenter held Dublin to just 1 run and 4 hits.  Midland, down 3-2 to Monterrey in the bottom of the ninth, had Ron Gant single and steal second.  Gary Sheffield followed with a two-run, walkoff homer!

Days 111-120 - Mark McGwire in Beast Mode, Backwoods gets 1st no-hitter of the year!

WHAM!  Another homer!
Mark McGwire compiles the most powerful ten-day stretch of the season so far, batting .417 with 11 home runs and 21 RBis in just the last 36 at bats!!!  The big man is now at astonishing 59 home runs, with 47 games left to play!   It is only July 28th in this replay, Roger Maris is a foregone conclusion at this point.  McGwire is now on pace for  83 home runs and 162 RBIs!!!  Will be fun to see where this ends.  Not coincidentally, Fort Wayne went 7-3 this stretch to crawl into the wild card race with Monterrey and Las Vegas.

Rocco's Replicas are the hottest team in the league now, going 8-2 and getting to  .500 in the very competitive East Division.  Backwoods went 7-3 to continue to pad their lead there.  Backwoods starter Juan Guzman tossed the first no-hitter of the year, blanking the Buttheads for 0 hits, 0 runs, 5 walks, and 12 K's!

Henderson and Monterrey continue to fight tooth and nail in the Central, with the Rickeys clinging to a 1/2 game lead.

Our two leading home run hitters
Hate to have a repeat winner of the Player of the Block award, but I just cannot deny McGwire for this set of games.  Others worthy of note:  Rocco's Ugueth Urbina with 4 saves in 8 shutout innings, Kevin Brown of Brookline with 2 wins and a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings and 27 K's, Barry Bonds of Backwoods with a .390 average, Fort Wayne's Kevin Millwood with 2 wins and 0.56 ERA, and Brooklyn's Chipper Jones at .438 with 6 home runs.

This Bugs Bunny clip makes for a good soundtrack
to this steroid steason!

Day 111  After giving up two runs in the top of the 9th to lose their lead, Monterrey rallies for two more to turn back the Dubliners 8-7.  The Bastards thrash the Goombies 12-1, Fernando Vina with three hits.  Bill Mueller knocks in three for Jimmy as they beat the Fremonts 5-3.  Jeff Fassero holds the Juicers to 1 run, and David Cone wins his elevenths as the Replicas beat the Buttheads.  Mark McGwire hits two homers, and his second one (#50 for the year) was a walk-off as Fort Wayne beats the Rickeys 12-10!

Day 112  Cliff Floyd and Juan Gonzalez homer for the Bastards in a 7-6 win over Midland. Aztecs top the Dubliners with John Rocker getting his 4th save,   Shawn Green continued to pound the ball, blasting two HRs for Vegas.  Ken Griffey hit his 40th that game as well.  Randy Johnson whiffed 12 Rickeys and Mark McGwire had ANOTHER two HR night!  PED-Co's Kerry Wood held Verona to two hits, and Brooklyn's J.D. Drew cranks a walk-off HR against Rocco.

Day 113  Monterrey gains ground by beating Henderson, Carlos Delgado has 2 HRs and 4 RBIs while Kevin Brown tosses a two-hit shutout for the Buttheads.  Three more hits for Backwoods 2B Fernando Vina as they roll past the Fremonts, Verona's Chuck Finley slows down the Frosted Tips, limiting Mark McGwire to 0 home runs.  Rocco got past Jimmy 7-5, Carl Everett homered and drove in three.

Day 114  Big day for A-Rod, two home runs and 5 RBIs as Henderson drops Monterrey.  PED-Co beats Dublin 9-7 on Matt Stairs' two-run walkoff homer.  LV's Kenny Rogers (Chicken) outduels Backwoods Hideo Nomo in that rarest of treats this year, a 1-0 victory.  Only 8 combined hits in that one!  Kevin Millwood dominates Verona in Fort Wayne's 6-1 victory.

Day 115  Rick Reed (wasn't he the father in the Brady Bunch?) goes the distance for Monterrey as they eke past the Rickeys.  Las Vegas gets past the Bastards 4-3, Cal Ripken driving in the game-winner.    Midland gets a walk-off walk to beat Brooklyn in 13 innings.  Verona's Aaron Sele helped shut out mighty Fort Wayne.  Mike Simms drove in three as Rocco topped Getting Jimmy 6-5.

Day 116  Midland's Pedro Martinez earned his league-leading 15th win, the Buttheads beat the Rickeys in a back and forth game, PED-CO used Sammy Sosa's 44th homer to top Verona Ridge, Edgar Martinez had three hits and 3 RBIs for Rocco, and Brian Moehler gets the win as Dublin beats Fort Wayne 4-3.  Bombs blasting in Backwoods as they get two HRs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Getting Jimmy (Barry Bonds hit the first, Rafael Palmeiro the second)!

Day 117  Quite a few one-sides games today.  Brooklyn stomps the Rickeys 9-2, PED-Co wallops Verona Ridge 11-1, Rocco beat Las Vegas 92, and Fort Wayne thrashed Dublin 16-3!  Mark McGwire hit his 54th, but Ellis Burks was the main man for the Frosted Tips with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. There was a close on in Midland as the Goombies beat the Aztecs 11-10 on a Carlos Hernandez walk-off home run.

Day 118  Mark McGwire has just another day at the office, smashing two HRs against Dublin.  Henderson gets 4 in the 9th to beat the Buttheads, the Juicers Curt Schilling got his 14th win in an 11-5 win over the Roadrunners.   Rocco' 'replicated' 15 runs and 16 hits against Vegas.  Denny Neagle K'd 15 for Midland.  David Wells shut out Jimmy as Backwoods rolled 8-0.  Juan Gonzalez belted his 40th home run of the season.

Day 119  Backwoods Bastard starter Juan Gonzalez recorded the first no-hitter of the year, dominating Brooklyn.  A performance like that deserves the box score's full quote...

It took a while to pry Guzman away from his teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy. Finally, however, Steve Willnus got to offer his own congratulations with a big bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen in all my years in baseball - Guzman was masterful out there tonight!'

Henderson scored 5 runs in the last two innings to top Midland, Tony Saunders of Vegas held Getting Jimmy to just one run, Scott Hatteberg had three hits and Scott Erickson 11 K's for Monterrey, and Verona wins on a walk-off error!  Biggest non-Guzman news of the day, though, was Mark McGwire with yet another two home run game - his 9th this season!

Day 120   Verona wins with a walk-off HBP when Frank Thomas was drilled with bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning.  Chipper Jones homered twice and knocked in 5 to get Brooklyn past the Bastards.   McGwire struck again, clouting homer #59 in Fort Wayne's 5-1 win over the Juicers.   Rocco got a home run from Albert Belle and fine pitching from David Cone to top the Aztecs.

Days 101-110 - Fort Wayne rising but PED-Co keeps rolling!

Fort Wayne has a nice 7-3 record this block to move past Dublin and into second place in the West, but division rival PED-Co did even better, going 8-2 to extend their lead to 10 games now.  Backwoods and Henderson retain their leads in the East and Central.

Player of the Block again? Sweet!
Player Of The Block Award goes to Mark McGwire, whose .364 average, 7 HRs, and 13 RBIs led all others.  Big Mac had three straight games of 2 home runs this set.  Amazingly, he has now belted 48 home runs and has not yet hit more than two in a single game.  McGwire's teammate Mike Jackson gets special recognition as well, throwing 8 scoreless innings and racking up four saves!  Mo Vaughn hit .500, and Larry Walker hit .514.  PED-Co's Todd Stottlemyre got two wins and allowed just 1 run in 17 innings.

The Home Run race has been fascinating with McGwire coming out firing right out of the blocks, fending off various challengers like Ken Griffey, Albert Belle, and Manny Ramirez.  Sammy Sosa has quietly climbed right up there now, as the below chart illustrates.  The cream has risen to the top, will be interesting to watch how this ends up!

Day 104  Kerry Wood brought the pitching (10 K's) and the Juicer's hitters brought the offense (11 runs, 16 hits) in a big win over the Roadrunners.  Midland knocked off Monterrey to give Pedro Martinez his 13th win.  Robin Ventura's HR was the difference for the Frosted Tips.  Jimmy's Tony Saunders and C.J. Nitkowski held Vegas to just 1 run.  Greg Zaun(bie) knocked in four for the Rickeys.  Bastard hurlers Hideo Nomo and John Johnstone (with a last name ripped right out of the Flintstones) teamed up on a four-hit shutout of the Replicas.

Day 110   Dublin's Shane Reynolds blanks the Aztecs, while Ismael Valdez of Las Vegas does the same to Jimmy.  Rafael Palmeiro, Jose Canseco, Juan Gone and Barry Bonds all homer as the Bastards overpower the Goombies.  Fort Wayne's Jon Lieber moves to 11-5 in a win over Henderson, Verona's mighty mite Neifi Perez gets 3 hits and 2 RBIs in a win over PED-Co.  Brooklyn wraps up this set with a thrilling rally to nip Rocco's Replicas.  Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Carlos Delgado and Rusty Greer walked, Jeff "Survivor Contestant" Kent sacrifice bunted, and then Jay Bell singled in the tying run.  Ugueth Urbina then balked in the winning run.  Local law enforcement agencies were alerted after the angry Urbina left the ballpark.
